creating social connections

What’s a way to improve your physical, cognitive, and emotional health?  Socializing with other people provides all of these benefits. The U.S. Surgeon General’s advisory on the subject, released last year, encourages all Americans to reap the health rewards that come from social connection. The best news is that connections, spanning from intimate to casual, all make positive impacts.

It’s natural and important to replenish your social network as you age.  To get started, focus on opportunities for casual interactions that occur when sharing an activity with others. At DOROT Westchester, there are many activities to choose from. Even better, DOROT always ensures these activities provide time and space to begin nurturing new relationships. Not only can you meet people your own age, but DOROT brings multiple generations together including people ages 60 and over engaging with teens in events.DOROT enables area residents to join events in community spaces to create art, make music, play games, cook, learn new information, discuss ideas, and much more.

If traveling into the community is challenging, you can welcome DOROT volunteers into your home for conversations and activities, or join one of literally hundreds of group programs that DOROT offers online and even over the telephone.

Programs are offered without fees, thanks to the generosity of DOROT’s donors.

To get started, connect with the friendly staff at DOROT Westchester by calling 914-485-8354 or emailing infowestchester@dorotusa.org.
