This treat is sure to please and prep time is under 20 minutes. A good tip: Try freezing small pieces of this super sweet treat so as not to overload on the sugar in one sitting! That way, you’ll also have it on hand to serve with a cup of coffee or tea when family and friends drop by.
Ingredients:
– 3 to 4 matzos
– 2 sticks unsalted butter
– 1 cup light brown sugar
– 12 oz. bag of semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
– 3/4 cups chopped walnuts (or your preferred nut)
– sea salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Line a standard-sized rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Cover the paper with matzos, breaking and fitting together best as possible to fill the sheet.
In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, combine the butter and sugar. Stir continuously until mixture comes to a boil and cook another three minutes or so until it’s foamy and thickened. Pour this toffee over the matzos and spread evenly.
Bake for about 10 minutes or until toffee is bubbling. Remove pan from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Wait a few minutes for the chips to soften and use a knife or small spatula to spread the melted chocolate over the toffee matzos. Sprinkle with the walnuts and sea salt to your taste.
Refrigerate until chocolate hardens (about an hour). Break or cut into pieces and store in container in the fridge until ready to serve. Keep refrigerated. (Tip: Makes a great gift; place in a mason jar with bow.)
