In August of 1776, the first and largest battle of the American Revolution was foughton the hilltop of today’s Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Join one of the Scarsdale Adult School’s walking tours on April 9 to learn about the battle as our nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Start at the high Victorian gothic revival brownstone gates designed by the distinguished American architect, Richard Upjohn. Walk up the hill to glimpse the Upper Hudson Bay Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Take in the history of this 478-acre cemetery, view some of its impressive monuments honoring those of the Civil War, and visit the grave sites of some of New York City’s prominent citizens. Please note: Rigorous walk covers approximately 1.5 hilly miles on trails with uneven ground and some stairs. 

Prefer to use your hands to make one-of-a-kind items. Then try an 8-session knitting class starting on April 14, also provided by the Scarsdale Adult School. Learn to knit from the first stitch, new stitches like lace and cables, or receive help with a project. Beginner patterns provided are fingerless gloves and a toy stuffed rabbit. Beginner supplies that students must bring:  US 10 (6.5mm) bamboo needles and one skein of light-colored Lion Brand Wool Ease yarn. To register, click through on this link. On April 10, 11, 17 and 18, The Manor Club Theatre in Pelham will be presenting Cahoots, a comedy that follows Ken and Jan’s swanky 1990s dinner party. As the evening progresses, the situation gets nuttier…as it turns out that surviving dinner with friends is way riskier than dodging Manhattan street crime. On April 11, the Emelin Theatre presents Cry Baby! The Janis Joplin Experience. This production, starring Lisa Polizzi, moves beyond simple imitation to offer a deep dive into the musical and emotional landscape that defined Joplin’s brief but brilliant career.

The Hastings Flea market returns Sunday, April 12, with their handmade, vintage and upcycled wares. You’ll find clothing, accessories, records, games, home decor and more. They’re also ready for you with coffee and a food truck.

Michael Feinstein and the Carnegie Hall Ensemble will perform at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College on April 18 Feinstein (pictured above) swings the songbook into the 21st century with the contemporary jazz musicians of the Carnegie Hall Ensemble and special guest Bobby Daye.  

Providing affordable entertainment since 1963, The Harrison Players will be presenting Arthur Miller’s classic Death of a Salesman from April 23 to 26. Tickets cost $30.

Are you an aspiring floral artist but not sure where to start or simply want to explore the craft of floral arranging? In this New York Botanical Garden class, with two sessions on April 25 and May 2, you’ll gain the foundational knowledge of floral design principles; including flower care, arrangement techniques, and creative styling. Through hands-on demonstration, you’ll learn how to create stunning floral arrangements from start to finish as you build confidence in your design skills. Flower arranging not your thing?
