luka’s debuts in white plains

An 18-year veteran of the restaurant/hospitality business, Luka Brucaj has opened Luka’s Italian Cuisine, a multi-section 150-seat restaurant and bar/lounge on West Post Road in White Plains, at the former site of Ernesto’s. The restaurant serves Italian/American and continental specialties for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.

Brucaj has worked for such noted restaurants as Coco Pazzo and Michael Jordon Steakhouse in New York City. His family operates Tre Angelina Restaurant on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, and in Monroe, NY. Luka is often joined on the floor by his wife Rosa.

The restaurant has undergone a major renovation – antique white and pastel walls surround the enclosed sparkling bar area from the main 55-seat dining room. There is an enhanced catering room for up to 100 guests. Coming soon is a downstairs wine cellar which will be able to hold up to 60 guests for private wine functions.

My recent tastings have included: a fine hot antipasto for two, chocked full of baked clams, fried calamari, eggplant rollatini and stuffed mushrooms; a refreshing insalata di Pere; arugula salad with pear, goat cheese, walnuts and shaved parmesan cheese with a balsamic dressing; hearty fettuccine
Bolognese in a tasty meat sauce; and a classic version of vitello saltimbocca, medallions of veal topped with prosciutto di Parma and melted mozzarella in a rosemary wine sauce over a bed of spinach.

Luka’s Italian Cuisine is located at 130 W. Post Road, White Plains. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and is closed on Mondays.  Main courses at lunch: $15 to $33.
